What This Is
The standard, not a business
Ready Made Business (RMB) is the operating philosophy that sits above the ventures in this portfolio — not a brand itself, and not something with its own visual identity. It's the standard a business has to meet before it can honestly be called finished and sold.
The Defining Standard
Founder independence, precisely defined
A business only counts as an RMB if an Operating Manager can handle operations, staffing, procurement, refunds, exceptions, and quality control without ever contacting the founder. Every system is built assuming the founder is permanently unreachable — which forces every operational decision to be documented before the fact, not resolved case-by-case as questions come in.
Selling an incomplete RMB is treated as a trust violation, not just an unfinished feature: if founder dependence is still baked in somewhere, the buyer unknowingly inherits a business that quietly routes responsibility back to its creator.
The RMB Box
Ten required deliverables
Prompt Packs are central to daily execution: operators consult AI guided by predefined company policy instead of improvising or contacting the founder — the specific mechanism that makes founder independence enforceable day-to-day, not just a stated value.
Validation
Two tests before anything is called done
Founder Independence Audit
Buyers must be able to purchase, launch, operate, classify work, resolve issues, and replace staff — without needing the founder, end to end.
Blackout Test
A deliberate simulation assuming the founder is unreachable, run against real edge cases using an average — not expert — operator.
Build Order
Fixed, irreversible sequence
No stage begins until the current one is stable enough to hand to a total stranger immediately — no exceptions for moving ahead early.
What This Fully Includes
Confirmed across the portfolio
- I.O. Collective Co. — the entity applying this standard portfolio-wide; the source of the framework itself
- ESSNTLS — governance layer built around a named Operations Manager Role & Agreement and an Independent Contractor Packet
- BarksWay Vending — intended to run on the same operational discipline as ESSNTLS; the only meaningful difference is the Cat With the Snacks consumer layer
- The Glam Vault — its core asset is literally titled the Independent Operator Manual
- The Reclaim District — six contractor roles, explicit scope limits, no employees, by design
- Steady Lane Support & Steady Lane Vehicle Management — built for an operator to run independently of the founder; scope-limited specifically so it's safe to hand to contractors
- RepairHairMan — a real, working example of the founder/operator split: Ijeoma built the systems, Cliff Barksdale operates the business day-to-day without having founded it
- Lunch Break Level Up — "Brand built · Legal clause held" status matches the pre-decided-reality standard directly
- Task Executioners — every service templated for identical output regardless of who executes it, though without a formally named Operating Manager role
Not included: LockStitch Secure Solutions and Focus Barber Co. lack documented operator-independence structure; the Etsy brands (Here, Try This / Passing Notes / Forwarded) are one-time digital purchases with no ongoing operation to hand off.
